The Bear

Twenty-five years ago at the age of 69, 22 days after he coached his last football game, Paul "Bear" Bryant had a heart attack. I hope they were stocked up on Golden Flake potato chips and Coca-cola by the time he got to heaven!

  1. I will never forget that day. I was at the dentist and the receptionist said I had a phone call. Kind of strange....It was my sister who had called my office to tell me Coach Bryant had died. When she found out I was at the dentist, she called there because she didn't want me to hear the news on the radio. I was devastated. My dentist, an Auburn graduate, was sympathetic.

When I got back to work my (then) brother-in-law, who played for Coach Bryant, was there to make sure I was alright! I wasn't. I cried all the way back from the dentist office. I've suffered much ridicule for my devotion to Alabama football, but I just don't care. I love it and refuse to apologize for it!

Golden Flake potato chips and Coca-Cola, "Great pair said the Bear".

  2. Remind me not to tell you any Ala jokes! I have some serious AL folks in my family, too.

I heard on the news that someone put a bag of chips and a coke by his grave.

  4. Now, now, now! I can live without football! The only game that interests me is Aubutn/Ala.
