Blue Morpho Butterfly

I think these are so beautiful!

The blue morpho butterfly gets its colbolt blue hue from thousands of semitransparent scales that "filter blue from the visible spectrum and radiate out from the wings."

They come from the rain forests in Central and South America. They are tiny, living works of art.

Well, of course, this one is no longer living, but it still retains it's beauty!

  1. Cool. I had never heard of that kind of butterfly. Never seen one, either. But I haven't been to the rain forests in Central and South America. Yet.

  2. I did a google search and it said they were mostly from South America but also Central America and Mexico. I would guess they flit around to other places, too. I think I had one in a frame a long time ago.
