Operation Rebound

You can't really tell by looking at this picture, but these are former soldiers each wounded in Iraq. From left: Rich Ingram, Andy Hatcher and Melissa Stockwell. They were a relay team in the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon.

Melissa lost her leg to a bomb, but finished ahead of plenty of swimmers who had both arms and legs, in the swim from Alcatraz.

Andy lost his foot to an IED and raced for 8 miles in the triathlon.

Rich's arm was blown off and he has a prosthetic arm just for cycling. He cycled for 8 miles.

"We're really lucky to have what we have, and that's what you got to focus on. You got to stay on the optimistic side. You can't start focusing on the dramatic negative aspects of it."

Andy Hatcher, Operation Rebound

We really need to hear more about people like this and much less of Paris, Rosie and so many others!

  1. Thanks for posting this story. What these men and women go through for our country is beyond words. Yet what's on the news every night? Poor Paris Hilton has to go to jail for a few days. Instead of wall-to-wall coverage of a spoiled little brat, we need to see more stories like this one. And there are many.

    Thanks again,
    Julie
