Mona

If you've been to the Birminngham Zoo since 1955, you've most likely seen Mona, the Asian elephant. She was almost 60 years old but after having problems this week, the decision was made to put her to sleep yesterday.

She had been found lying on her side Monday, unable to get up, so a crane was brought in to lift her and she seemed better until she was found on her side again yesterday.

Her companion, Susie, died in 2005, That means the zoo has no elephants on exhibit, now. No news on whether there will be a new exhibit in the future.

Reminds me, I haven't been to the zoo in a long time!
